Things To Consider When Purchasing A Heated Dog Bed

The heated dog bed is a specialty pet bed which I think is a wonderful idea. A heated bed is great for older dogs with arthritis, younger, more active dogs that may experience joint pain, whelping puppies, dogs just out of surgery or simply for pets that may stay outside in cold weather or in colder rooms of your home.

When shopping for a heated dog bed, here are some things to consider:

Will you be using the dog bed when you travel?

Some heated beds are designed to plug into a standard 110v electrical outlet. Others are capable of plugging into the 12 volt cigarette or accessory plugin of your car, which is great if you’re on the road traveling with your dog. There are also some brands that are capable of using both standard electricity as well as 12 volt power to heat the bed. Understanding ahead of time, where you will be using your heated dog bed, will allow you to make the correct purchase.

Will you be using this bed indoors, outdoors or both?

Some heated dog beds are suitable for outdoor use while some are only to be used indoors, out of the weather. A heated bed thats designed to be used indoors should “ONLY” be used indoors or else you could be exposing your dog to electrical shock.

Other things to consider:

Will you need a thermostat on the bed?

Turns the heater on or off depending on the ambient temperature

Do you need a bed with adjustable temperature controls?

Allows you to set a cooler or warmer temperature depending your dogs needs

Will you need a chew resistant cord?

If your dog is just a puppy or likes to chew, a chew resistant cord is an option on some beds.

Do you want your heated dog bed to be machine washable?

Some beds can be washed and others are not designed to be washed

How large will your dog’s bed need to be?

Dog beds typically come in small, medium and large sizes, to fit the needs of your dog.

As you can see, there are several different things to consider before purchasing a heated dog bed for your pet. Understanding ahead of time, just how your bed will be used will allow you to make the proper choice for a bed that should last a long time and give your pet lots of warm comfort.
